Taking Your Practice into the World
There are two types of Bodhicitta, aspirational and engaged.
We use practices such as Tonglen (Compassion) along with the other three Boundless Qualities, to develop Aspirational Bodhicitta. The purpose is to train our capacity, making heartful aspirations for the well-being of others. The three other Boundless Qualities include Boundless Loving Kindness, Boundless Sympathetic Joy, and Boundless Equanimity.
The second category is Engaged Bodhicitta, which is about doing something when you get off the cushion. This may look like taking action in the world, to make it a more compassionate and peaceful planet for all beings.
